Evolution de la situation épizootiologique en Bretagne en 1983 suite au développement de Bonamia ostreae ArchiMer
Tige, Gilbert; Grizel, Henri; Cochennec, Nathalie; Rabouin, Marie-agnès.
Bonamia ostreae diseease is always present in Brittany in the different farming areaa except few free natural oysters beds. Yet Bonamiose disease have not increased in the Bay of Cancale on oysters initialy very few parasited. The technical modifications of rearing and the eradication on sick oysters could explain this situation.

Feline heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis) infection: first case report of serological diagnosis in Brazil, confirmed by molecular assay Anais da ABC (AABC)
PEREIRA,BARBARA B.; BASTOS,BETHÂNIA F.; KEIDEL,LUCAS; LELES,DANIELA; BRENER,BEATRIZ.
Abstract The clinical importance of heartworm infection in cats has indeed increased in recent years. Dirofilaria immitis infection has been reported worldwide in cats and continues to be regularly diagnosed in endemic areas. The diagnosis can be overlooked easily, especially in Brazil, where there is not a specific feline immunodiagnostic test, forcing the veterinarians to use a test made for the canine host. In 2015, a 10-year-old female neutered cat was diagnosed with D. immitis using an antigen serological test, based on imunocromatography and designed for dogs. The modified Knott test was negative. As the disease progressed, the cat showed clinical signals of respiratory distress, such as dyspnoea and polypnea in addition to prostration and...

First record of Marteilia sp in mussels Mytilus galloprovincialis in Croatia ArchiMer
Zrncic, Snjevana; Le Roux, Frédérique; Oraic, Drazen; Sostaric, Branko; Berthe, Franck.
Marteiliosis is a disease of molluscs caused by Marteilia refringens in Europe and M. sydneyi in Australia. During routine examination of cultured mussels Mytilus galloprovinciallis in the northern Adriatic, the occurrence of Marteilia sp. was recorded with a prevalence of 5 %. This parasite was not detected in flat oysters reared in the same area. The affiliation of the detected parasite in M. galloprovinciallis was confirmed by in situ hybridization using a M. refringens probe, specific at the genus level. DNA of these infected mussels originating from the same area will be used to clarify the taxonomic position of this species within the genus Marteilia using a molecular approach.

First record of the microsporidian parasite Steinhausia mytilovum in Mytilus sp (Bivalvia : Mytilidae) from France ArchiMer
Comtet, Thierry; Garcia, Celine; Le Coguic, Yvette; Joly, Jean-pierre.
Steinhausia mytilovuln is a globally distributed microsporidian parasite which infects the oocytes of the blue mussels Mytilus edulis and M. galloprovincialis. Despite the intensive monitoring effort made on mussel populations, the parasite has not previously been reported in France. We report herein on the occurrence of S. mytilovum in Mytilus sp. from 1 cultured and 2 natural populations on the northern coast of France, thus extending the parasite's known distribution northwards. We also report on the observation in 1989 of S. mytilovum in M, galloprovincialis from the Golfe de Fos area in the Mediterranean Sea (South of France), S. mytilovum was observed in the European hybrid zone between M. edulis and M. galloprovincialis, which therefore renders the...

Flat oyster follows the apoptosis pathway to defend against the protozoan parasite Bonamia ostreae ArchiMer
Gervais, Ophelie; Chollet, Bruno; Renault, Tristan; Arzul, Isabelle.
The in vitro model Ostrea edulis hemocyte - Bonamia ostreae is interesting to investigate host-parasite interactions at the cellular level. Indeed, this unicellular parasite infects the flat oyster Ostrea edulis and multiplies within hemocytes, the central effectors of oyster defenses. Apoptosis is a mechanism used by many organisms to eliminate infected cells. In order to study the potential involvement of this mechanism in the oyster response to B. ostreae, in vitro experiments were carried out by exposing hemocytes from the naturally susceptible oyster O. edulis and a resistant oyster species Crassostrea gigas to live and heat-inactivated parasites. Hemocyte apoptotic response was measured using a combination of flow cytometry and microscopy analyses....

Flow cytometry to measure impact of temperature and salinity on the survival of Bonamia ostreae, parasite infecting flat oyster Ostrea edulis, in seawater ArchiMer
Arzul, Isabelle; Bond, Celine; Gagnaire, Beatrice; Morga, Benjamin; Chollet, Bruno; Ferrand, Sylvie; Robert, Maeva; Renault, Tristan.
Bonamiosis due to the intrahaemocytic protistan parasite Bonamia ostreae is a European endemic disease affecting the flat oyster, Ostrea edulis. After its first description in June 1979ı in Brittany, the parasite rapidly spread to all French oyster farming areas and in other European countries through transfers of live molluscs. The parasite has been described in different ecosystems from estuaries to open sea and no clear correlations could he demonstrated between the disease development and environmental parameters like temperature or salinity. The infection can he directly transmitted by cohabitation between infected and non infected oysters. Nevertheless, the parasite life cycle, including its survival outside the host, is not completely...

Genetics and morphology of the genus Tritetrabdella (Hirudinea, Haemadipsidae) from the mountainous rain forests of Sabah, Borneo, reveal a new species with two new subspecies Naturalis
Kappes, H..
Blood-feeding terrestrial leeches of the family Haemadipsidae are a notorious part of the invertebrate diversity in Asian and Australian rain forests. All hitherto published records of terrestrial leeches of Borneo belong to the genus Haemadipsa. Here, a second, poorly known haemadipsid genus is reported from Mount Kinabalu and Crocker Range National Park. The individuals were barcoded and compared to sequences available in GenBank. The results show that the genus Tritetrabdella has representatives in the Indochinese and the Sundaic bioregions. All six specimens from Borneo are from a single new Tritetrabdella lineage, T. kinabaluensis spec. nov. Within the Bornean lineage, two groups differing 4-5% in the COI barcoding sequence were identified. Because 1)...

Marchiori,Natalia da Costa; Silva,Fabiano Muller; Martins,Maurício Laterça; Amaral Junior,Hilton; Silva,Bruno Corrêa da.
ABSTRACT: Ichthyophthiriasis is a worldwide fish disease with great financial impact on freshwater fish farming due to its associated high mortality rates. Current study assesses the parasiticidal capacity of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and chlorine dioxide (ClO2) against the causative agent, Ichthyophthirius multifiliis, in jundiá. Median lethal concentration (LC50, 96h) of each chemical agent was established, as well as the minimum inhibitory concentration of hydrogen peroxide for the parasite´s infectious larval phase (theront). Products were tested asynchronously in parasitized fingerlings for short and long baths at the following concentrations and exposure times: 1. Hydrogen peroxide: (T1) continuous bath - 30ppm and (T2) 50ppm; (T3) short bath -...

Involvement of nitric oxide and its up/down stream molecules in the immunity against parasitic infections BJID
Nahrevanian,Hossein.
Nitric oxide (NO) is a potent mediator with diverse roles in regulating cellular functions and signaling pathways. The NO synthase (NOS) enzyme family consists of three major isoforms, which convey variety of messages between cells, including signals for vasorelaxation, neurotransmission and cytotoxicity. This family of enzymes are generally classified as neuronal NOS (nNOS), endothelial NOS (eNOS) and inducible NOS (iNOS). Increased levels of NO are induced from iNOS during infection; while eNOS and nNOS may be produced at the baseline in normal conditions. An association of some key cytokines appears to be essential for NOS gene regulation in the immunity of infections. Accumulating evidence indicates that parasitic diseases are commonly associated with...

La bonamiose un fléau de l'huître plate.... ArchiMer
Morga, Benjamin.
The history of French oyster culture shows very well how fragile this farming is to stock overexploitation and diseases. The production of flat oyster, Ostrea edulis, fell dramatically after the appearance of two parasitic diseases: arteiliosis and bonamiosis. The curative means against bonamiosis (Bonamia ostreae) are restricted and imply a good knowledge of the parasite's life cycle and of its interaction with its host. Studying the expression of the parasite's and the host's genes during the infection seems essential in providing new adapted measures in order to maintain, if not relaunch the flat oyster culture. In this context, this thesis aims to understand the flat oyster-parasite interactions, and especially, the molecular basis of the resistance to...
